Executive Director - A Little Compassion Inc., Deep River, CT

A Little Compassion Inc. seeks a dynamic and experienced Executive Director to lead our organization. This role involves overseeing our administration, strategic planning, programs, fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. The Executive Director will report directly to the Board of Directors and play a crucial role in guiding the organization’s mission and financial viability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership & Management: Guide the organization in line with its mission, ensuring effective communication with the Board and the timely provision of information for decision-making. Oversee the hiring and retention of qualified staff within The Nest Coffee House and ALC. Total staff of 20, of which 90% are neurodiverse.
  • Financial Oversight: Maintain fiscal integrity, manage the annual budget of approximately $500k, and ensure the organization operates within financial parameters. Lead fundraising initiatives and build relationships with key donors and partners.
  • Strategic Planning & Community Engagement: Implement and enhance programs aligned with our mission. Actively participate in community outreach and form partnerships with other organizations.
  • Management of Programs: Ensure effective administration and operations, including oversight of The Nest Coffee House & affiliated programs including: Possibilities Boutique, The Nest Employment Program, Social Gatherings, Doggie Barks, Acceptance Inclusion & Outreach program, as well as additional marketing and advertising initiatives, and various fundraising events.
  • Direct Supervisor: Program Director, Development Director, Bookkeeper, Shop Manager, and Marketing Coordinator
Professional Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Human Services, Special Education, Counseling, Nonprofit Management, or a related field. A master’s degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
  • Proven leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit or human services environment.
  • Operational experience in a retail or restaurant environment.
  • Experience in fundraising, donor relations, and developing resources to ensure financial health in the nonprofit sector.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills, capable of representing the organization to a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to engage and work collaboratively with diverse groups, including volunteers, board members, donors, and community partners.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all  Nest Coffee House staff, including hiring, training, and maintaining high standards of operation. Future additional management to share shop responsibilities.
  • Manage all aspects of marketing, community events participation, and regulatory compliance for The Nest Coffee House.
