Donations are our lifeblood and Essex Savings Bank is giving thousands of dollars to help aid our efforts.
Essex Savings Bank will be collecting votes throughout the month of February. At the end of this period, the votes are tallied and translate into a percentage of the total amount of allocated funds. In 2019, the total amount to be distributed is $39,600. Support A Little Compassion Inc. / The Nest Coffee House by voting!
Rules to vote:
If you are a customer of Essex Savings Bank you are eligible to vote for up to three of your favorite non-profit organizations beginning February 1 through February 28, 2019. A customer will be defined as any person having a loan, deposit account or safe deposit box with the Bank. Each customer, regardless of the number of accounts held, will be allowed to complete only one ballot.
Paper ballots are available at any of the Bank’s six branches or an electronic ballot may be submitted by logging into your Essex Savings Bank online account.
About A Little Compassion / The Nest Coffee House
A Little Compassion Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in Deep River that serves Connecticut Shoreline and River Valley communities. Finding your place in the world can be tough – especially during formative young adult years. It’s often even tougher for a young adult with autism or an intellectual or developmental disability, or who is neurodiverse in any way. ALC has set out to make the journey smoother by creating employment and social opportunities for young adults in our midst who need an opportunity to shine. We also work to increase public awareness and acceptance that young adults with disabilities are vital and valuable community members.
The Nest Coffee House: ALC is in the process of securing a permanent home in Deep River for its primary program, The Nest Coffee House. The Nest will hire and train young adults with disabilities, helping to foster confidence and build skills our young adults need on their journey to adulthood. The Nest will be a place where the community can gather to find a sense of belonging. We believe that opportunity will brew confidence, and that there is no limit to the positive things that can happen over great cup of coffee (or a fresh-baked cookie).
Nest Gatherings: These gatherings are ALC ‘s social activities program, offering a soft place to land for teens of all abilities who sometimes find themselves on the outside looking in. The activities give young adults a chance to hang out with their peers, participate in fun activities, learn something new and meet folks with common interests. Nest Gatherings are open to young adults of all abilities but have a special emphasis on creating a welcoming and affirming environment for teens and young adults with disabilities. We aim to create a sensory friendly environment where young adults are supported, lifted and embraced for who they are and where they are on life’s journey.
We are hoping to gain additional funding from The Essex Bank Community Fund so we can build The Nest Coffee House —a permanent home where we can provide both employment and social opportunities, and expanding our Nest Gatherings offerings to meet more needs in the community.
