We believe that young adults with autism, developmental disabilities and anxiety/depression have a right to work. Our program to create work experience and employment positions is located in the heart of the Connecticut River Valley. Our primary program, The Nest Coffeehouse, hires individuals with disabilities for at least 50% of our employment positions. The shop is a sensory friendly, safe, welcoming environment for young adults with disabilities as well as members of the public. Our coffee is top notch and our food items the best around! N.E.S.T. (New Employment Skills Training) Program Launching at The Nest!
A Little Compassion is pleased to announce that The Nest Coffee House is launching a training/work experience program! The goal of The N.E.S.T. (New Employment Skills Training) Program is to build skills for future independent employment or supported employment. The program runs from 2-6 weeks and is based on each person’s skills and needs.
This program is free to eligible participants and is located at The Nest Coffee House in Deep River, CT. Eligible participants must be a young adult (ages 18-30) with autism or other intellectual/developmental disability who is not receiving job services from their school or the state and has basic job readiness skills to prepare them for the world of work.
The N.E.S.T. program provides all participants with work experience and the support of a job coach. Structured training and supports ensure all participants will develop self-knowledge as well as work and interpersonal skills that are valuable in any workplace. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn the major skills and basic ins and outs of working in a coffee shop/small restaurant. Although N.E.S.T. participants are not paid employees, all participants will have the opportunity to apply and interview for open positions at The Nest during the program.
This program is available to a limited number of participants free of charge through generous grants from Liberty Bank and American Savings Bank. Interested individuals should contact firstname.lastname@example.org for a program application. The first participants will begin the week of August 16, 2020 with additional groups starting in the fall. We hope to hear from you!
